What Is Versus?

On June13, forward-thinking design studios composed of Team Manila, Inksurge, Electrolychee, Supersteady+ Doofusdraws, Guadakomeda + Planet Umeboshi, EverywhereWeShoot, Collision Theory, 2720, and Kyleprojects will launch the very first graphic design exhibition in the Philippines, immaculately forging art with graphic design, and even music.

Graphic design in the Philippines was simply viewed as a tool of the advertising and multimedia trade a few years back. Now that impressively stylized works, urbane web portfolios and even graphic merchandise have been invading local culture, the collaborators feel that the advent of graphic design as a pure form of visual _expression has finally taken off in our country, and we're celebrating it with VS. Design And Music Collide

Project Versus is a seminal collaboration; for this year's pioneering exhibit, the designers have paired up into nine teams who will be interpreting nine diverse musicians and bands' original songs—such as the lyrical musings of Jamir from Slapshock, rising stars Up Dharma Down, The Late Isabel vocalist Wawi Navarrosa with Radioactive Sago Project's Francis de Veyra, MC P.G. with beatmaster Caliph8, hip-hop heads Sun Valley Crew, acid jazz favorites Sound, singer-songwriter Isha, drum-and-bass quartet Helen, and pop rockers Ang Bandang Shirley.

It's artists versus musicians; a creative mash-up that will result in nine unique art spaces viewers are invited to see, hear and initially feel at the Theo Gallery in Guijo St., Makati. Soon after, Project Versus will also be traveling to other galleries and commercial spaces in the metro.

Besides the exhibition, Project Versus is also producing limited edition designer kits. These will contain a CD of the featured songs and stellar merchandise from graphic design's best.
